Job Overview

Reporting to Social Services manager, the driver is responsible for providing safe, courteous, and efficient transportation for pediatric patients, their families, and, when required, hospital staff. He also performs certain internal or logistical transports that support the smooth operation of the institution.
At all times, the incumbent applies a person-centered approach tailored to the needs of pediatric orthopedic patients, ensuring comfort, dignity, and individualized attention.

Responsibilities

Transportation of Patients and Families

  • Greet patients and accompanying family members with empathy, respect, and professionalism.
  • Adapt support based on the child’s age, functional limitations, mobility aids, or medical considerations.
  • Ensure safe boarding and disembarking, promoting the child’s autonomy whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain a calm and reassuring environment through smooth driving, clear communication, and attention to comfort.
  • Respect patient confidentiality and uphold the dignity of children and their families.

Internal Transport and Logistical Support

  • Carry out internal or external transports of light equipment, documents, or supplies required for hospital operations.
  • Provide logistical support for certain institutional activities or events, according to established priorities.
  • Manage transport requests in accordance with supervisor directives.

Safety, Maintenance, and Compliance

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and ensure cleanliness and proper condition of vehicles.
  • Report any defects or incidents and participate in preventative maintenance follow-up.
  • Comply with road safety regulations, internal policies, and standards specific to the transportation of children.

Administrative Tasks

  • Maintain required records (routes, mileage, vehicle use).
  • Use internal systems to receive, confirm, and organize transport requests.
  • Contribute to updating schedules, reports, and other documents required by the department.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5 or other class required depending on the vehicle).
  • Minimum 1-2 year(s) of experience in professional driving or customer service (an important asset).
  • Bilingual in French and English, written and spoken
  • Knowledge of local routes and safe travel practices.
  • Person-centered approach and sensitivity to pediatric settings.
  • Ability to interact effectively with pediatric patients, including children with physical or emotional limitations.
  • Ability to transport light materials as part of logistical duties.
  • Courtesy, patience, empathy, and respect.
  • Autonomy, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and strong sense of responsibility.
  • Adaptability and ability to manage multiple simultaneous requests.
